Fiberglass window screen mesh is the world’s most popular choice for keeping insects out while maintaining airflow and visibility. Unlike aluminum or stainless steel screens, fiberglass screens do not dent, corrode, or rust. They are also safer to handle and easier to install. However, with so many options on the market, how do you select the right one for your home or project?
The first factor to consider is mesh count. Mesh count refers to the number of openings per linear inch. Standard counts include 17×15, 18×16, 17×19, and 19×21. A higher count blocks smaller insects like gnats and no-see-ums, but it also reduces airflow and light transmission. For most residential windows, 18×16 or 17×19 offers the best balance. For doors or high-traffic areas where durability is key, 17×15 is stronger and less likely to stretch.
The second factor is coating quality. High-quality fiberglass screen mesh uses PVC or polyester coating to bond the yarn intersections. This prevents fraying, unraveling, and warping. Shanjian uses a heat-setting process after weaving to lock the mesh into a perfectly flat shape. Our coating is UV-stabilized, meaning it will not break down under years of sunlight. Poorly coated screens will sag, create gaps, and allow insects to enter.
The third factor is color. Black mesh offers the best see-through visibility – you can look out clearly while people outside see only a dark screen. Gray and charcoal blend well with most window frames. White and off-white are traditional choices but may show dirt more easily. Shanjian offers all these colors, plus custom colors for large orders.
Another important consideration is fire resistance. Many building codes require fire-rated screens for commercial buildings or escape windows. Our fiberglass window screen mesh is inherently flame retardant. It will not support combustion and meets international fire safety standards.
Size and packaging also matter. Standard roll sizes are 60cm x 220cm for residential windows, but we also supply jumbo rolls up to 1.5m wide and 100m long for industrial users. Custom cutting is available.
Finally, do not forget environmental certification. Shanjian’s production follows ISO 14001 standards. Our screens contain no harmful chlorine compounds and emit no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). They are safe for homes, schools, and hospitals.
Whether you need invisible screens, fireproof screens, anti-bird nets, or standard insect screens, Shanjian has the right product. We offer free sample swatches so you can feel the quality and test the light transmission.
